Windows 7的首個Service Pack推出不久，就有消息指Microsoft已經開始把早期版本的Windows 8分發給測試人員測試了。Windows 8相信要到下年才會正式發售，但現在開始開發其實也差不多，相信在年尾可以見到公開測試版。
據消息指，Microsoft有意讓Windows 8支援ARM平台的處理器，這將能有效把Windows 8帶到日漸擴張的手提裝置平台上，作為新的Tablet平台。相對的，Windows 8也會變得更適合在觸控螢幕上使用。這對Windows系統來說將會是一個很大的改變，到底這會否變成另一個Windows Me或Vista呢？
