Tesla 在德國興建 Gigafactory 工廠的計劃並不算順利，早前因為環保團體入稟法院投訴 Tesla 未有在獲得所需工程許可之前就已經開始清除樹林，在案件處理期間就需要停工等待判決。最近 Tesla 終於重新獲批繼續工程，將會繼續清除樹林。
Tesla 的德國 Gigafactory 選址在柏林附近的 Grunheide，佔地 92 公頃。由於當地本來是樹林，因此 Tesla 需要先進行樹林平整作業才可以正式興建。在完成清除工序的 3 天前，就因為投訴案件被法院勒令停工，至今才終於恢復。德國法院方面駁回了環保團體的投訴，更表示這是最終判決，不會再進行審訊。
環保團體指，除了砍伐樹林之外，設立汽車工廠也會造成當地的化學污染以及過度損耗水資源，同時會對當地蝙蝠和螞蟻族群帶來負面影響。Tesla 表示透過在當地設廠提升產量，其電動車產品最終可以帶來更大的環保效果，而 Elon Musk 更表示，他們每砍下一棵樹，都會另外種植 3 棵樹。
