經過在 Google 和 Alphabet 工作 18 年，前 Google CEO Eric Schmidt 昨日對外宣佈，在今年 6 月 19 日任期屆滿後，不會續任 Google 母公司 Alphabet 的董事職務；Alphabet 亦發聲明表示，不再續任的 Schmidt 將會為董事局擔任顧問的角色。

Schmidt 在 2001 年 3 月加入 Google 董事局，然後在同年 7 月至 2011 年 4 月擔任 Google 的 CEO，之後再在 2011 年 4 月至 2018 年 1 月期間，成為 Google 母公司 Alphabet 的行政主席。現年僅 63 歲的 Schmidt 在 2017 年選擇退下來，成為普通的董事局成員，並將時間投入在以家族基金名義創辦的慈善事業。
離開 Alphabet 董事局的除了 Schmidt，還有前 Google Cloud CEO Diane Greene，外界認為她是令 Google Cloud 能夠跟 Amazon 和 Microsoft 雲端服務競爭的領頭人物，不過她支持極具爭議性的 Project Maven，還有跟 Google CEO Sundar Pichai 不和，有指是她離開 Google Cloud 的原因。
