傳說 Windows 的版本會隔代出現質素參差的問題，例如 Windows XP 和 Windows 7 中間的 Windows Vista，以及 Windows 7 和 Windows 10 中間的 Windows 8。最近 Microsoft 就悄悄地縮短了 Windows 8 App 更新支援達 4 年之多。
今次受影響的並非 Windows 8 本身，而是在 Microsoft Store 上對於 Windows 8 App 的支援。原先在去年 8 月，Microsoft 方面公佈了 Windows 8/8.1 的 App 將會在 2023 年 7 月 1 日開始停止支援更新，意味着在 Microsoft Store 上的開發者在這個日期之後，不可以把新版本的 Windows 8/8.1 App 放上架，只可以更新 Windows 10 的版本。
不過最近他們悄悄地更改了公告的內容，Windows 8 App 的更新終止日期從原先的 2023 年變成與 Windows Phone 8.x 一樣的 2019 年 7 月 1 日，整整早了 4 年之多，而 Windows 8.1 則仍然不受影響。Windows 8 雖然後來有大型更新修復不少問題變成 Windows 8.1，不過目前仍然有 0.95% 的 PC 電腦仍然在使用中。
