Microsoft 早前才推出 Windows 8 系統，因大幅改變操作介面令不少人持觀望態度，甚至決定繼續使用現有的 Win XP、Vista 或 Win 7 系統，近日有消息指出 Microsoft 已定好各系統的「死亡時間」。
Microsoft 對每個作品系統均提供 Mainstream 和 Extended Support，前者為系統提供安全和非安全性更新，後者只為系統提供安全性更新，並只為付費用家提供支援服務，以下為各 Windows 系統的 Mainstream 和 Extended Support 完結時間：
Win XP：Mainstream support 已終止，Extended Support 於 8.4.2014 終結。
Win Vista：Mainstream support 已終止，Extended Support 於 11.4.2017 終結。
Win 7：Mainstream support 於 13.1.2015 終結，Extended support 於 14.1.2020 終結。
Win 8：Mainstream support 於 9.1.2018 終結，Extended support 於 10.1.2023 終結。
