隨著數碼影像技術的急劇發展，攝影師對鏡頭質素要求更高，因此佳能為新一代鏡頭配備更優越的光學設計，實現更高質素的完美影像。EF 24-70mm f/2.8L II USM標準變焦鏡頭採用全新研發13組18片鏡片光學設計，其中1片超高精確度研磨(Ground)及2片高精確度玻璃鑄模(GMo)非球面鏡片，能大大修正變形、視場彎曲等各種鏡頭像差，為整個畫面帶來更高質素影像；而1片Super UD超級超低色散鏡片及2片UD超低色散鏡片，則能有效消除廣角焦段的橫向色差及色彩模糊現象，更改善了遠攝端的軸向色差，達致更高解像度及高反差影像。鏡頭更採用9片圓型光圈葉營造優雅散景，加上專為數碼攝影優化的鏡片塗膜，確保優越的色彩平衡及有效減低鬼影和眩光。
更佳操控性 極速捕捉每個精彩畫面
EF 24-70mm f/2.8L II USM整個焦段的最近對焦距離均為0.38米，讓攝影師以更近距離拍攝微細主體，呈現更多影像細節。鏡頭的環型超聲波馬達(USM)配合內對焦設計及優化的自動對焦演算法，能保證高速、寧靜及精確的自動對焦表現，讓攝影師快速掌握每個拍攝良機。鏡頭更提供全時手動對焦功能，使用自動對焦模式拍攝時，仍能隨時以手動對焦作精確調校，帶來更具掌握的靈活對焦操控。此外，憑著f/2.8大光圈的優勢，即使於昏暗環境下拍攝仍能保持快速對焦，令拍攝更具彈性，不論紀實或風景攝影同樣應付自如。
堅固耐用 輕鬆應付嚴峻戶外拍攝環境
全新鏡頭結集多項針對用家需要的設計改良，透過經優化的變焦結構，令鏡身更輕巧並提升其堅固耐用性，滿足專業攝影師的需求，以應付嚴峻的戶外拍攝環境。全新改良的鏡頭結構經過反覆電腦模擬驗証，大大加強變焦部分的耐用性，並能加強鏡身的抗震及抗衝擊能力。鏡頭僅重約805克，較上一代減輕達15%，鏡身長度進一步縮短，大大加強機動性，方便攜帶外出使用，隨時拍攝。此外，鏡頭最前端及最後端鏡面均加入氟塗膜(Fluorine Coating)，減少塵埃、污垢及指紋依附，讓鏡片更易於清潔，以確保影像質素。鏡頭更採用防塵防水滴設計1，以應付不同天氣狀況。使用新增的「變焦鎖」，能方便攝影師於攜行時將鏡頭鎖定於24mm端，避免鏡頭伸長造成損壞。
