新iPhone有傳會於9月12日發表，據英國每日電訊報報導，Apple將會於新iPhone發表會同時公布更新版AirPlay，新版毋須依靠Wi-Fi網絡，只要搭配合適的Hi-Fi或喇叭就可以。
新版AirPlay，代號AirPlay Direct，據傳可以令iPhone、iPad、iPod Touch和喇叭建立一個獨立的網絡，將音樂傳送到喇叭。雖然報導並未明確表達利用何種技術，但一般相信會以藍牙作連接。
