除Android及iOS外，你還知道有多少個手機的作業系統？Windows Phone？Symbian？MeeGo？Bada？RIM？那還有什麼？就是Mozilla的Boot to Gecko，以HTML5設計為基礎，並將會今年底到明年初在巴西推出。
Mozilla最為大家所熟悉的就是Firefox瀏覽器，與Google Chrome不斷侵食Internet Explorer市場，其中Google Chrome也有自己的Chrome Web Store安裝不同應用軟件。Mozilla將同樣概念放到手機上，並以Boot to Gecko作為作業系統的名字，藉著強大的HTML5功能去提供不同應用，如電話、短訊及不同的網絡API，相信也有不少應用也是透過雲端技術去執行。
採用Boot to Gecko的手機最快可望年底於巴西市場上首先推出，但會是什麼樣的硬件配搭則未有透露。其實早於上年中Mozilla已經透露了發展手機作業系統的可能，今年二月Mozilla更展示了運行Boot to Gecko的Galaxy S II，近期的JavaScript會議上更將Boot to Gecko放到Nexus S上運行。HTML5是網站程式的標準之一，只要有瀏覽器便可以執行應用，從而做到真正的跨平台作業系統。不過市場是否接受還要多廠商的支持，Intel的MeeGo也被Nokia放棄變成獨力發展，Samsung自家的Bada也未見有任何起色，Back to Gecko能否有生存空間還有待時間去証實。
