在之前幾個發佈中，我們已了解到Microsoft的Windows 8 上，將會支援ARM平台的處理器，以配合使用ARM處理器的Tablet。不過，對於到底它能否支援Windows 7或以下的軟件，Microsoft 方面一直没有消息。
最近，在一個投資者會議中，Intel透露，Windows 8將會分為 x86/x64版本和SoC版本，前者將會向下支援舊軟件，並會有Windows 7模式，但後者，也就是能在ARM平台上運作的版本，則不支援舊軟件。不過，Microsoft 則指Intel的這個說法是嚴重失實和誤導，但實際上會是如何，則依然没有公開。
