在現時的Android手機中，能夠最快得到更新的手機就只有Google的親生仔Nexus S 及Nexus One，有些手機更因為廠商不再為手機提供更新而無法更新，成為了「Android孤兒」，Sony Ericsson X8等用家就是其中的受害者，但是在未來這個局面可能將要改變。
Google 在I/O 大會表示，Google正在組建一個工作隊，以鼓勵企業承諾為他們所推出的Android手機提供韌體更新，如果硬件允許的話。Android手機製造商將會承諾在韌體更新推出後 18個月內為新手機提供更新，其中包括HTC, LG, Motorola, Samsung, Sony Ericsson等手機製造商。但是，這只是一個指引，他們並非一定要在韌體更新推出後 18個月內為手機提供更新。筆者認為，有了一個指引給手機製造商總比什麼都沒有好。
