Google 在社交功能方面成績一向不好，之前的 Google Buzz 和 Google Wave 都失敗而回，有人指，關鍵是它們不夠簡單。面對 Facebook（尤其是 Like）對互聯網越來越大的侵襲，Google也要推出類似的功能了，命名「+1」。
在外國網站，網民看到有共鳴的留言，通常就會回覆「+1」表示認同，Google這個新功能也是取自這個意思。簡單言之，+1 就是讓用戶「Like」Google 搜尋結果的方法。用戶在Google搜尋結果中看到有用的資訊，可以按+1推薦。那麼用戶的朋友搜尋相關資料，就會見到他的+1。試想想，你在尋找有用資料時，看到朋友推薦的結果，也會優先選擇吧。當然，這亦有助Google更了解用戶的口味，有利其廣告發展。
目前這功能只限在英文 Google.com 提供，亦要先到 Google Experimental 啟動。不過，相信 Google 會在不久將來將 +1 推到其他國家，始終 Google 在社交式分享方面已經落後於 Facebook 和 Twitter 太多了。
