Google經常稱自己有份的webM格式十分開放，人人都可以自由選擇是否使用，故決定在HTML5上，放棄蘋果和微軟都使用的H.264 MP4格式。但事實上，Google控制的力量太大，基本上他們要推行什麼格式，都可以很容易做到。他們最近就為Android 2.3.3加入WebM格式支援，進一步打入流動市場。將來，若果Google旗下的YouTube只提供WebM格式，再配上Android手機支援，誰人會不敢採用？
